On Tuesday three players finished the day at .500 oddly enough, a first for the Millpond RPS Grand National Tournament League. But after Wednesday one person fell, BC, as did the variation of the standings. BC finished as the the zero and two loser for the day and spoke to us beside the dumpster after falling to DR three to two.
What happened today, BC? You usually win the first set and lose in the winner's bracket.
BC: I know. I just can't seem to carry momentum most days when I win the first set. And then when I lose the first set--I don't know. My mind game is definitely what holds me back.
You had DR on the ropes though in that last set and he beat you with scissors after a long series of rock/paper combos. What happened?
BC: I came back that way, you're right, by anticipating him holding on throws for several counts. Rock, rock, rock, and then a paper. I really should have gone back to rock, but he was patient and it payed off for him. I have to give him credit, it was a smart play.
You fell in the last week of November to seventh place; you lost your first round to an eight seed JF; you're two and four for December now; how do you move on from such a seemingly defeated position so early in the month?
BC: It's a good question--I mean you're right, I'm definitely not where I need to be. Like I said though, my mind game is still weak--terribly weak--and those kinds of mind problems perpetuate themselves into making things worse and worse and there's really no easy solution to correct it. What I've got to do is win games. I can't remember when the last time I went two and zero was so I've got to get that feeling back. And the tallies.
BC is off Thursday but returns Friday to face either RK, LW, or DR, all formidable opponents. In other Wednesday news, a rejuvenated BB returned after a humiliating defeat to LW (2) earlier in the week for the November playoffs and took the day two and zero. He will make history on Friday if he can win two more, which would make him the first person to start the season four and zero.
